National Physical Laboratory Open Day

Friday 31 August 2018
10am - 3.30pm

Attendees to XXII IMEKO World Congress are invited to visit the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the United Kingdom's National Measurement Institute. This is a unique opportunity to visit a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards available.

After an opening address by Dr JT Janssen, NPL’s Research Director, there will be a chance to visit four laboratories to view NPL’s work in support of the redefinition of International System of Units (the SI).

Visitors will be able to see:

  • NPL’s new generation of Kibble balance;
  • the apparatus used to measure the Boltzmann constant;
  • NPL's time and frequency laboratories;
  • facilities for research into electron ‘pumps’ for the realisation of the ampere.

There will be a chance to meet with the scientists working on these projects and to find out more about NPL’s current research activities.

NPL is situated in Teddington, South West London, approximately 30 minutes from Heathrow by taxi, and a 30 minute train ride to central London. For full directions on how to get to NPL, please click here.

Numbers are limited so please register now to ensure a place. You must REGISTER for the IMEKO 2018 World Congress to attend this open day. The registration link for the open day will be available at the end of the IMEKO 2018 Registration process.
